On Sunday, November 12th, McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, NC was transformed into a dreamscape with over 400 enthusiastic participants gathered for the Lowe’s Pajama Walk.

This heartwarming event not only fostered a sense of community but also served as a powerful platform to support two local non-profits, ZABS Place and Friendship Circle. The two organizations, respectively, are dedicated to providing job training and employment, and social opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences.

The Pajama Walk, a unique and delightful initiative, was made possible through the generous support of its presenting sponsor, Lowe’s ABLE Business Resource Group. With a common goal of creating a more inclusive society, the event managed to raise an impressive $55,000, funds that will be instrumental in turning dreams into reality for those with intellectual and developmental differences.

The opening ceremony set the tone for the event with a heartwarming Pajama Catwalk featuring ZABS Talent and Friendship Circle Friends followed by a  daring professional BMX show highlighting the diversity of interests and talents in the community.

Pajama-clad participants of all ages and abilities walked, strolled, and rolled through the park in a sea of pajamas as they united to make dreams come true. The walk route featured quotes and photos of organization participants describing their dreams for themselves and our world. “We Dream of a World That…” is patient, has compassion, loves to laugh, understands non-spoken words… 40+ signs decorated the route and gave much food for thought and inspired many great chats along the way.

Following the walk, the Dreamland Festival awaited participants with a myriad of activities. Carnival games, inflatables, and obstacle courses provided endless entertainment for families. A special soccer area, presented by Charlotte FC allowed participants to showcase their athletic prowess, with an appearance by the beloved Charlotte FC Mascot, Sir Minty, adding an extra touch of magic to the festivities.

The Dreamland Festival served as a reminder that inclusion knows no bounds. Every smile, every laugh, and every shared moment reinforced the idea that community support can create transformative experiences for everyone involved. The Pajama Walk not only raised crucial FUNds but also nurtured a sense of belonging, proving that dreams do come true when a community comes together with love and compassion.
