Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Is Upcycling University a REAL University with credits?
A: Well… Umm… You got us. We’re NOT a regular university that offers credits, gives exams, assigns papers, tracks your GPA, and makes you stress and cram. BUT, we do offer post-high school education in all things upcycling and we can help you become a Master Upcycler. You’ll even end up with a degree in A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
So here’s a bit more about Upcycling University:
1. It’s a craft-based program building community with individuals who have special needs talents while teaching skills to offer financial independence.
2. It offers weekly sessions of crafting and “reduce, reuse, restyle” art projects to help students learn how to reuse everyday items in creative ways.
3. Classes are inclusive and are 60-75-minutes long. They’re designed for all people who enjoy crafts, community, and creativity and can follow directions with limited support.
Q: What should I wear to my Upcycling University classes?
A: Great question! We don’t have a University dress code but here are some tips that might be helpful. Your clothes should be: Comfortable, Cool with getting additions of paint or other materials (some clothes don’t like messes), Not too loose so they don’t get caught in tools or get in the way while crafting. If you wear jewelry on your hands and you like the way it looks right now, it might be better to leave it at home so it doesn’t end up with a makeover. One last thing, long hair should be worn up so it doesn’t get caught in anything. We’re not that great at giving haircuts.
Q: Can I drop by for an Upcycling University class without registering in advance?
A: Well… We like surprises but that’s not the type we had in mind. For now, all Upcycling University students need to register for classes on our website. There’s a few reasons for that, but one is because our classes are limited in size to keep everyone distanced and safe. Once a class is full we can’t accept any more students, even if you say “pretty please”. The good news is that we will be adding more classes in the future so if we fill up and you want to join, just email us at upcyclingu@zabsplace.org and we’ll see if we have enough students to open a second class.
Don’t see your question here? We’re adding to this list so it may appear soon but since we’re not great at reading minds feel free to be in touch and tell us what you’re wondering.
